Going Batty

Meditating

Wow, was it nice today, sunny and warm, and I loved having the wind in my face! I went walking with Mom and Patrick again over lunchtime. They took me to some paths on Brook street near a pond and waterfall. Mom and Patrick sat there for a long time talking and enjoying the sun. I took the opportunity for a little TT meditation as the wind blew my fur back on my face. I sat still for a long time. Then we went on another path further down the road. There was a little pond with ducks that flew away when I ran up to them. I could smell horses and other animals and we saw a hawk fly down the path right in front of us.

There was a stream that crossed the path and the only way we could get over was to walk across a log. I was scared and nervous, but Mom called me and I DID IT! I didn’t even fall in!

On the way back almost to the road Mom noticed a funny bird flying ahead of us. She realized soon after that it was a BAT! I heard her say that bats out in the daytime are bad news. This thing was flying up and down the path and buzzed us 3 or 4 times. I was really glad I had my rabies shot at that moment! But I was really worried about Mom and Patrick. Mom put her hood up and walked faster to get out of the woods away from the crazy bat. Patrick picked up a big stick to Bat the Bat just in case it landed on us! I never saw my humans in such a hurry to get OUT of the woods 🙂

We got home just in time for me to greet the bus. I was so tired from exploring all those new smells that I crashed on the couch on my favorite blanket, while the rest of my family attended to their own stuff.

I might just dream of bats tonight 😉

Blogging

March 7th, 2012

What a nice day today. Mom and Patrick took me to Boyden Refuge for a long walk. We saw a bloodhound AND to my great surprise we met one of my kind!!! Another TT! She was black and white and her name was Ursa. Her coat was curlier than mine and she was a little bit bigger. She was cute! We hit it off and enjoyed our visit.

Our new neighbors across the street moved in this past week. Now there are always people around. I am doing my best not to bark too much, but sometimes I just can’t help it! I am curious what they are all doing over there and why they don’t come pet me.

Mom snuck a picture of me writing my blog with her cell phone… you can see it above.

I am looking forward to spring. I can smell it in the dirt on our walks. Soon there will be peepers and osprey, and the juncos will go away… and the mosquitos will return…. yuck, I hate mosquitos, little heartworm vectors that they are!

There was a flock of red wing blackbirds and cowbirds hanging around my yard this week. I loved it when I asked to go out just so I could scare them away! I like the sound their wings make… whoosh… when they all take off together! Its almost like playing dominos for me 😉

Walks

January 30th, 2012

As I mentioned I spend a lot of time out in nature. Mom and Patrick are really nature nuts and love to walk no matter what the weather. So I get lots of exercise daily. My favorite places though are the different parks and woods near my house. It is always so much fun to get the scents of all the animals that have passed by. I have smelled deer, foxes, raccoons and I love to listen to the geese on the water.

Since the Lyme disease episode, Mom has thought it best that I have a new haircut. It was weird at first but I love it now. She can find ticks on me before they become a problem, AND I swear it feels like I can run faster without all that hair! I wear my coat alot now when it is cold though.

Me and my oldest boy

I turned 4 in September 2011. Life here is good. We go for lots of walks now and I have been hanging out by the river and at the parks. I had an active summer and was shocked to find out that I had contracted Lyme disease in spite of mom always putting that Frontline stuff on me. Dr. Mello discovered this at my routine physical when I was tested for heartworm also. I had to go on doxycycline for a month and it was icky. It made me not want to eat and if I took it without eating it made me throw up. I made it through treatment though and all is well. I was lucky, they caught it before I had any symptoms.

I like going for walks. Santa brought me a great purple comfort harness, its so light and airy and helps the leash not pull on my neck. I love it!

Mom, since she doesn’t have the boys every weekend often takes me away with her. We spend time at her friends house. The first time I went with her, they went out to dinner. Mom trusted me to be a good girl and didn’t crate me. It was a strange place and I didn’t know when they were coming back and I freaked out. I ran and jumped up right through the screen of the window! I got out at the condo developement, it was a big scary area and found myself locked out after dark. When Mom came back 2 hours later she was shocked to see me running around near the woods. That was the most trouble I have ever caused in my life. Mom was glad I stayed away from the cars and stayed safe. We visit there often now and it is like my second home. I have adjusted to having neighbors so close and I know the rules of condo living now 🙂 I like to sit on the deck there and watch the birds, its a nice spot for my Tibetan meditation.

Year of Change

April 30th, 2011

Here I am at 3 years old

2010 was a year of change for the whole family. Mom and Dad went their separate ways. I live with Mom and the boys now in a much smaller house. But it is cozy! I have adapted well to the changes and the additions. I am now completely trained to the electric fence. I like it better because I can see EVERYTHING going on in our new neighborhood AND I get to run around the entire yard, not just the back! There are neighbors here who walk every day and I don’t mind the man, but when the lady walks I have to announce that to everyone! I think it might be something in her footsteps that annoys me.

The other big change was the addition of finches and ferrets. I have a cage with 4 zebra finches and Murphy and Bailey the ferrets. They play with me and I am really gentle and try hard not to hurt them when we play.

My Job 🙂

I spend my days laying in the sun on my oldest boy’s bed. I sleep with him at night too. At 3pm every day its my job to greet my youngest boy off the bus in front of our house 🙂 I love my boys. Life is good and I am happy and healthy.

Early Fall

September 3rd, 2009

I love this fall weather. Nice to enjoy and just be. The boys started school yesterday, so it is pretty boring around here in the morning. I spend most of my morning up on Mom’s bed snoozing. She often wishes she could join me, but she seems to have a pretty busy schedule even with the kids occupied.
Autumn is great for walking. We went for a walk in the woods yesterday with Grandma, the boys and the girls. It was fun. Lot’s of tall corn stalks in the field.

Happy Birthday to ME!

I am 2!!!

I am 2!!!

Today I am 2 Years old! I love being a young adult. I have my full coat, I am spayed and no longer have to deal with my heat cycle. Always looking for my stud was getting old, it drove me crazy every 6 months and made me want to run wild and free!
I am dignified now and no longer pee on the floor or do any of that silly puppy stuff. I have many interests at 2. I enjoy spending time with my family, often on the go. I love meeting new people and new animals. I LOVE my cat Dexter. We have a thing. It’s a little unnatural, but we get along. He grooms me and we snuggle. Love the one you’re with right?
I have many toys, stuffed birds are my favorites. I still meditate out in my backyard and after 2 years of trying, I still have not gotten a taste of that squirrel I race down the fence line every morning!
Every day is fun though, I love the fresh air and sunshine in my back yard. I love my family and my life
It’s all so good!!!

Spay Day

March 9th, 2009

Today I had my big surgery. It was a dreamy kind of state to be in. I was a little sore when I woke up and for a day or so. But I was up and outside by the night time.

Along came DEXTER!

Dexter

Ok… I can’t believe they have gone out and gotten this creature. It smells funny, it walks slowly, it makes weird noises… and it likes to rub against me and bop me on the head… not sure I like this. But I will see where it goes 🙂 They say he was homeless. I can’t imagine being homeless… I guess I can share my home with him. He seems like a good guy.
